Jacobo Angeles Owl Buho Oaxacan Wood Carving Alebrije For Sale
Up for sale is a Jacobo Angeles Owl or Buho. These are commonly referred to as Oaxacan wood carvings or even alebrijes. But even then, some stand out among others, and Jacobo and his family really one up the competition. The dimensions on this owl are 6 x 4 x 4 inches, so it's a nice compact piece, easy to transport. But what makes these even more special, isn't just the designs which symbolize the important elements in zapotec culture, but it is also that these pigments are naturally made. I visited San Martin Tilcajete this past June and toured theworkshop which is a nice thing to do if you're down in Oaxaca anytime soon, and it was amazing to see their process and how they made their pigments. Very special. So you know, owls had a real special place in Mayan and Zapotec culture, they were messengers between our world and the underworld, I guess because of their nocturnal lifestyle. So they were considered guardian angels. This one has a lovely blue green color scheme and would make a lovely topic of conversation for as long as you own it. So you know: I'm a grad student and pretty busy right now with school, so please allow 1-3 days after the end of this sale to get it shipped out. I'm thinking this will need to go UPS for insurance purposes but there shouldn't be any major issues. Please contact me with questions and I will do my best to clear them up. And by all means, check out my other sales as I'm getting rid of a lot of neat stuff with the dual goals of lightening my load of belongings and also traveling abroad this summer, so it's for a couple good causes! Thanks for looking and take care!
