James Deakin & Sons Repousse Silver Plate Tea Set ca 1890, Electro Plate -- Tea Pot & Creamer

The renowned Sheffield silversmith, James Deakin & Sons, uses repousse and etching to create a beautiful art nouveau floral pattern in this tea pot and matching creamer. Beginning in 1868 as James Deakin & Co., the silversmith became James Deakin & Sons in 1871. They continued business in Sheffield, England until 1936.

The creamer bears the number “16608”, but no hallmark. The matching tea pot, also marked 16608, bears the hallmark for James Deakin & Sons, with its characteristic trademark, a table lamp, and a cartouche with “EP” for electroplate.

The tea pot is 6” tall, 9-3/4” from handle to spout and 5-1/2” side to side. The creamer is 5” tall, 5-1/2” handle to spout and 3-1/4” side to side.

The sets is very nice, with an aged look. Both tea pot and creamer have a monogram, a "C".

Among the beneficiaries of my sales is Make Way Partners.

Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Make Way Partners is a non-profit organization that is committed to preventing and combating human trafficking in Africa and Eastern Europe. Its criteria for selecting indigenous partners to work with are to go where women and children are at highest risk of human trafficking, forced prostitution and other forms of modern-day slavery, and where little to no other help is available because it is considered too dangerous, too expensive or too remote for most people to go. Among their orphanages are two in South Sudan and one in the Congo. To learn more about Make Way Partners, go to makewaypartners org.
