A Butsudan is an essential item in a Japanese household as a symbol of spiritual faith. This shrine appears to be a fine lacquer cabinet from the outside, but a second set of interior doors open to reveal a golden colored Buddha statue in a shrine. A meticulously carved miniature temple surrounds the Buddha figure. Above the shrine is an intricately carved border of three-dimensional chrysanthemums. This shrine comes with subordinate items, butsugu (candle sticks), and incense burners. The shrine is in overall good condition with clear signs of age and wear. There are minor breakages along the edges and there is some material loss to the lacquer and wood. One doorknob handle is loose.
