We are quite pleased to offer this Japanese plique a jour footed bowl.

This is a French term \"letting in the light\".

The enamelling technique dates back to 6th century AD. Like cloisonne, without the solid backing, so that light shines thru the transparent and translucent enamels.

This fine Japanese Shotai-jippo or plique a jour bowl is 5 1/2 inches.

In very fine condition. Rich, enamel color retained. Stands firm. Tiny hairline (under the surface) along bottom, see last image.
