Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Figure Of A Geisha - Fully Signed:
Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Figure of a Geisha - fully signed
This is abeautiful Japanese Satsuma figure of a Geisha in full ceremonial dress. The decoration on the kimono is tiny andincredibly detailed.
It is approximately5.5 inches (14cm)tall.
The base is fully signed, see photograph 10, but I am afraid that I have no idea what it says.
There is no doubt in my mind that it dates from the late 19th century.
Regretably, one of the sleeves of the kimono has been broken and re-attached. It is difficult to show on photographs, I have tried with photograph 10 but the break starts just below the the left of the fan, curves up to the bottom of the fan and the runs along the bottom of the fan to the other edge.
As would be expected on a piece from this era, her face has glaze crazing.
