We are pleased to offer this exceptionally rare 1880 Gorham sterling silver floral and basket-weave handled bowl.
This Gorham Japanesque bowl from our forty year collection of Meiji Japanese and American Japanesque silver wares. Most accumulated in the 1970s and 1980s.
In unique squared shape tucked in at base.
Centre with artistically hand carved Japanese leaf and floral stream. Finest hand chased finish detail. The work aproaching that of Meiji silver. Set on unique strawberry satin chased background.
Chrysanthemum petals rising from base.
Above, scrolling geometric and Japanese fan decorative border.
Most unique faux wicker basket-weave border along the upper rim.
Finished with boldly cast semi-circle chrysanthemum engraved handles.
Gothic K and 1880 engraved to under side.
Japanesque bowl 5 inches across handles and it is 4 square and weighs 9 1/2 standard ounces.
Hallmarked as shown.
In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The Japanese floral sprays retain their original rich vobrant hand chased detail. Interior mild wear.
