Fine sterling silver helmet design cream jug by John Lias in 1784. The engraved crest to the front is an armoured leg wearing spurs, the heraldic crest of the Eyre family.
Dimensions: Approx 158mm high (approx 6¼ inches).
Weight: 6.66oz (207.4g) overall weight including lead ballast under the foot.
Condition: An ancient repair to the beaded top rim moulding. Also an ancient repair to the foot stem. The handle has an old solder repair to the lower joint. A few minor dings to the body. A variety of digs & scratch marks. Despite these old repairs the overall condition is very good indeed. The foot cavity has been filled with lead for additional stability.
Marks: Maker mark IL; London assay office mark; lion silver mark; date letter i for the year 1784.
