Josef Originals Xviii Century French "marie" Gorgeous Bride, Rare Vgc :
This large, gorgeous bride is "Marie" from the highly valued XVIII Century French Series. She is pictured on page 72 in the pink book, "Josef Originals, Charming Figurines" and on page 72 in the beige book, "Josef Originals, 3rd Edition. In that book, published in 2008, she was valued at $165 - $175. The others from this series are pictured on page 67 in the blue book, "Josef Originals, A Second Look". "Marie" is rare and hard to find!
Marie is wearing a beautiful wedding gown with a huge, full skirt and a long veil that cascades down her back. The gown is white with soft bluish-gray in the folds to give it dimension. The gown has long, pouffy sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. There is a lot of shiny, 24 karat gold on this figurine that makes her sparkle and shine! The bottom of her dress is adorned with shiny gold "lace" sponging all the way around. Her veil has shiny gold "lace" sponging along the curved bottom edge as well. Marie's neckline and the edge of her veil are outlined in shiny gold and she is holding a folded gold fan in her right hand. There are two large, applied pink roses on her dress with shiny gold leaves that trail down the front of her dress. There is a matching, applied pink rose at the top of her veil which is surrounded by shiny gold leaves. Marie's hair is white and is piled high atop her head. Her face is expertly hand painted with pink cheeks, black eyes & eyelashes, delicate eyebrows and cherry red lips. She is exquisitely beautiful!
Marie is in excellent, vintage condition. She had one rose petalthat was chipped on the rose atop her head, which I have replaced with a rose petal I made from ceramics, painted and glazed it to match. I think you'll have a hard time telling which petal I replaced. From display distance it looks perfect. Her gold fan had some slight wear on the tip, which I touched up with a dab of metallic gold paint. (Please see my close-up photos). Besides that she is in perfect condition everywhere else! She has her oval, black & gold "Josef Originals" sticker on the side in good condition. "Josef Originals C" is clearly inscribed in the clay on the bottom of the piece. (My camera didn't want to focus on it very well, but it's clearly there). There is also an oval, black & gold "Japan" sticker on the bottom. She is approximately 7 1/4" tall and 5 1/2" wide and has a glossy glaze. Marie is stunningly beautiful and surely one you'll want to add to your collection!
I also have another XVIII Century French lady listed, "Babette" and would be very happy to combine shipping should you win both of them.
