Look at this beautiful 19th-century American coin silver shell bowl serving spoon made by Joseph Seymour & Co.of Syracuse, N.Y.,between 1857and 1870. This handsome spoon, in the Wreath pattern first seen in 1854,bears a very clear example of his maker's mark and bust to the back of the stem (seeJohn R. McGrew:Manufacturers' Marks on American Coin Silver,page 43),and a retailer's mark from high end silversmiths & jewelersL.P. & S.E. Coe of New York, N.Y.This elegant spoon remains inexcellent vintage conditionand bears no monogram. An exceptional and rare piece of silver from the early days of American tableware!
