You are offerding on a large mid-Century basket by legendary potter and educator Ken Ferguson.
DESCRIPTION: This museum quality “modern” basket has a white stoneware clay body and features a deftly braided handle atop a voluminous basin. The glaze is a stunning cinnamon brown that is further adorned with a cascading series of vibrant green drip markings.
The basket measures 12 ½” tall to the handle and 6 1/4” at its widest- and displays nicely LARGE. It is in mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and has the potter’s personal “F” stamp on the
ABOUT KEN FERGUSON: Ken Ferguson (1928-2004) studied at various art institutions, receiving his MFA from Alfred University in 1954. From 1964 on he was he was head of the ceramics department at Kansas City Art Institute, where in 1996, his year of 'retirement', he became professor emeritus in ceramics. His students include many successful contemporary ceramicists including Chris Gustin, Richard Notkin, Akio Takamori, Kurt Weiser and others. His own high-fired stoneware - both the earlier functional and the more recent figurative work- are highly coveted and remain in great demand among collectors worldwide.
