Kustom Kraft Very Rare Romel Reins, Hobbles And Riata Made To Look Like Ortega's:
Okay, a couple of weeks ago we sold a set of reins that were made to look like Ortega's ( see the response on those darlins) and I know there were some folks out there who were sorry they missed them. So in the interest of being fair YOU GET ONE MORE CHANCE!!. So don't miss out on this amazing set.As you have probably guessed, we like the folks at Kustom Kraft, and why not...they make great stuff!! They made 10 of these sets ONLY!!!!! about 30yrs ago, and they shamelessly named them the "Ortega Rip Off set". Now think about all the things you did to yourself in your first 30 years...you see where I am going with this. Between damage. attrition, flood fire, divorce and death you maybe looking at the last of their kind...and there will be NO MORE EVER!! So offer with your heart, not that cut throat little bugger that sits on your right shoulder...he's not the boss of you!So starting with the gorgeous romel reins. These are built of dark chocolate braided leather that is smooth as silk in your hands. They are the great using 3/8" diameter, nicely weighted with just enough weight for drape. The bit ends start with 6 natural rawhide discs ( a fun factoid that I got straight from a book on Ortega is that these discs have a purpose other than cosmetic. They are used to keep the actual rein off the horses neck, so that as the horse sweats over the life of the reins, they don't rot from the reapplied layers of sweat.) Next comes the first sterling ferrule. These are fully engraved with a chevron pattern that creates a contrasting matte and shiny finish that really makes the silver stand out. The rawhide discs that frame the silver are in the famous Ortega orange, The rawhide color discs also have accents of this color worked in to the braiding. So after each ferrule you have an orange disc, then a natural disc and another orange disc to the next ferrule. There are 10 ferrules on each rein with this pattern being repeated over and over. The bit end of the reins are anchored by a large rawhide ferrule. The braiding on these are micro fine, see the pics. All kidding aside, it is fair to call this Ortega like quality braiding. Everything is evenly shaped, and the braiding is so fine and smooth you feel no deviations when you run it through your hand. Immediately following this ferrule, is a small accent wrap on the orange braid. Then the fixed chocolate loop ends of the reins each wrapped in a natural colored hondo guard that is laced in the orange color rawhide. Each rein is finished with the proper vaquero knot end With the locksand closing button being of natural rawhide with the orange woven in where the rein loops double back is also reinforced with a natural peicec of rawhide laced with the orange. The total length of each rein is 50" including the bit attachments. At the top loop of the rein, there is a really nice accent piece that is common to only these reins. Centered by 2 natural colored accents is a rein slide that is comprised of two silver ferrules with a square concho face set in a diamond angle with a large engraved flower center. This is a really nice statement piece that is big enough to be noticed, without interfering with the function. The romel attaches by way of a vaquero knot with the slide and button lock all in natural rawhide, accented with the orange color.. The romel measure 1/2" diameterans a learge silver ferrule at the attaching end flanked on either side by an orange rawhide disc and 3 additional natural discs working toward the popper end. The popper end of the romel has the same treatment as the bit ends of the reins with a total of 7 silver ferrules culminating in another huge finely braided ferrule. The popper Is finished leather, plain and slightly lighter and redder that the reins. The popper is held in place by a large braided disc where it folds through the reins, followed by 2 narrower discs, and an additional single disc faether down that holds the flaps in place. The riata is built just like the reins. It has 12 silver ferrules done in the same manner as the bit end of the reins. It is still tied with the original leather band, so I am going to guess the length at 15'. The popper end is the swish tail type. The hobbles are really attractive with double chocolate loops on each side Each side of the hobble has 4 silver ferrules, 2 on each loop with the same rawhide accenting in between. Double stainless rings that are very clean hold the hobbles together. The rawhide work on the ball lock and slide is flawless, and the braider gave you nice sized pieces with ultra fine braid and perfectly executed orange chevron accents. I have included lots of pictures, please look at them closely, feel free to ask questions, or if you need a specific pic, I am happy to get it for you. These have never been on a horse, in spite of their age. They have always been in a non smoking home in a bridle bag.
