Kalo Studios Sterling Silver Coffee And Water Set For Sale
For your consideration is this exquisite example of "Craftsman" period hand wrought sterling hollowware by the Kalo Shops, Chicago, ILL. This is a Coffee Pot(23.92oz), Water Pitcher(24.51oz), Creamer(7.78oz) and Covered Sugar(10.94oz) all hand wrought in the Kalo Shops between 1905 and 1918. The total weight of this set is 67.15oz. All pieces with outward pointing flutes, tapering upward to slender necks with applied wire rims, with flat tapered bottoms and flat hollow handles. The coffee pot has ivory insulators on the handle and a rounded fluted hinged top with an ivory finial. The sugar cover is a little less rounded and has an ivory finial. All pieces have an applied LHH monogram. The coffee pot measures 81/2" to the top of the finial, the water pitcher measures 9" to the top of the spout, the creamer measures 31/8" to the rim and the covered sugar measures 41/2" to the top of the finial.
The stamp on the bottom of the Coffee Pot reads: Sterling, Hand Beaten at Kalo Shops, Park Ridge, ILLS. #45
The stamp on the bottom of the Water Pitcher reads: Sterling, Hand Wrought at The Kalo Shops, Chicago #13143
The stamp on the bottom of the Creamer reads: Sterling, Hand Wrought at The Kalo Shops, Chicago and New York #45
The stamp on the bottom of the Covered Sugar reads: Sterling, Hand Wought at The Kalo Shops, Chicago and New York #45
All of the pieces show the signs of ware indicative of sterling items of this era; small scratches and abrasions. The hinge on the coffee pot is being held in place by one section of tubing instead of two and the lower ivory insulator on the outer side of the handle is chipped. There is one 3/4" dent at the bottom of the Creamer (is visible in the photo just below the monogram) where the bottom curves under toward the base, hardly noticeable. The pieces have not been polished or cleaned since I aquired them.
This is a rare and gorgeous set and will be a fine addition to any collection of Craftsman era silver. Please feel free to contact me for any additional information. Thank you for your offer, good luck!
