This medium vintageKenya sisal twine bag (Kiondo) is hand woven by the Kikuyu and the Akamba tribes found at the slopes of Mt. Kenya where this huge spiked sisal plant grows abundantly. Sisal is a tough fiber giving long-lasting, tear-resistant wear. The colors are dyes created from natural elements. The straps and closures are leather which is dyed and polished to a beautiful finish. Bought in Nairobi, Kenya in 1983. Very strong, can carry heavy items in it, perfect for using at a farmer's market. Measures 18.5" diameter at rim, 18" deep, strap is 15" long. Notwo totes are identical. This one is finely, tightly woven.
