Knights Templar Jewel
Gold Filled, Genuine White Sapphires
This vintage jewel has a remarkable design! The piece features a large knight's bust and cross emblem below two detailed top bars. The knight's bust is crafted with a 3D shape and boasts an open cut moveable face mask. The large cross below has a matte finish and is accented by textured rays between each of its 4 arms. A red enameled Maltese cross is set atop the middle of the larger cross and bears a shield in it's center. The Maltese cross reads No 2 in the East - West direction, while a cross and crown are featured to the North and a skull and crossed bones are to the South. The center shield displays a knight atop a horse in it's center and is framed by a white enameled border reading Temple Commandery Albany N.Y. .58 carat total weight of genuine white sapphires adorn the front of the jewel adding nice sparkle to this piece. The middle bar above reads H.E. Hartman and is accented by a cross & shield design on either side. The top bar prominently features a KT shield finished with black and white enamel against a banner and sword motif. The back of the jewel is fitted with a pin and clasp and ribbon bar. It is engraved Presented To Sir Knight Harold E. Hartman Eminent Commander of Temple Commandery No 2 K.T. Jan. 2, 1942 By The Sir Knights Of His Commandery. The piece is stamped with a maker's mark. There is some surface wear and patina visible on this jewel as can be expected with a vintage piece.
This jewel weighs 84.2 grams. The piece measures 6" long and 1 29/32" (48.5mm) wide.
