L217 ANTIQUE c. 1920 EGYPTIAN REVIVAL GOLD AND SILVER MICO BEADED PURSE
Item Description
We are pleased to offer this Antique circa 1920 Egyptian revival era, Micro Beaded Purse with gilded Frame and Chain. This purse has the tiniest Art Deco needlework, like tambour, and is a classic egyptian revivial / deco purse in gold and silver microbeads with gold and silver beaded fringe. The lining is original and does have tearing. There is some age related wear to the purse and frame but this purse still displays well and is a rare find. As far back as the Middle Ages, both men and women carried purses. Although these medieval bags rarely held the scarce commodity of money, they did serve to carry other small personal items such as important papers for men and sewing implements for ladies. These early purses often reflected the social status of the carrier. More elaborately embroidered and embellished bags usually found a home with society's most affluent members. Some of the most popular purses with collectors these days are the beaded and metal mesh examples of the late 19th and early 20th century. These hard to find early beaded purses are a must have for the more serious antique beaded purse collector. Research Consulted: Restoring & Collecting Antique Beaded Purses by Evelyn Haertig....
