L390 RARE 1900-14 RICHARD KLEMM DRESDEN DECORATING STUDIO HP CUSTOM LG GILT VASE
The ERS is proud to Showcase this spectacular and RARE, ca. 1900 to 1910, giant 13 inch German custom blank tapered cylinder vase, with magnificent buttress handles, and hand decorated by the renowned Dresden Studio of Richard Klemm. Our incredible form features a scalloped & domed base in a pink ground, with prominent gilded Fleur de Lis wings. The gently tapered cylinder is finished in vertical maroon piping, to support the gorgeous spiraling Tea Roses and Thistle, while the vaulted handles are the perfect complement to the lovely tulip bulb crown. Our Dresden treasure carries the original registered Richard Klemm Dresden crown stamp with Germany, which was used from 1891 until 1914, and this wonderful heirloom is from the middle portion of the era ca. 1905.
Karl Richard Klemm founded his decorating studio on Vorstadt Striesen in Dresden in 1869, and proceeded to hand paint fine German blanks in the Meissen & Vienna styles. The Klemm Dresden crown was registered in the RWZR under number 24, ca. 1883, and his was the first official Dresden crown stamp. He was joined shortly in a cooperative by Donath & Co, located in the Wachsbleichstrasse and founded in 1872, with the Donath Dresden crown registered in the RWZR under number 25. Other cooperative members later in 1883 included Oswald Lorenz, and Adolph Hamann. Although there were over 200 painting shops in Dresden alone between 1855 and 1944, the Dresden style is typically associated with the blue crown stamp by Richard Klemm, Donath & Co., Oswald Lorenz, and Adolph Hamann, all from 1883. The decorating style they employed was a mixture of Meissen and Vienna florals and figural highlighting. Later, other decorators employed the Crown and Dresden mark, and such names as Franziska Hirsch, Ambrosius Lamm, Carl Thieme, and Helena Wolfsohn have also become synonymous with Dresden china. The blanks used for decoration by Klemm, were contracted from the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, Meissen (KPM); Rosenthal; the Silesian Porcelain Factory; and selected Limoges potters.
