Item Description
We are pleased to offer this fine antique creamer and open sugar by George Nathan & Ridley Hayes. Solid Sterling, toal weight 302 Grams, this is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.The chased decoration is very sharp and clear. Monogrammed MCB . c. 1904. The creamer measures 5 x 2.5 x 4 and the tall open sugar 6.5 x 3.25 x 4 tall. This antique english sterling silver cream and sugar was made by George Nathan & Ridley Hayes of Chester and London England for Berry & Whitmore in Washington DC. George Nathan & Ridley Hayes registered 1897. Proper hallmarks for Chester. Lion Passant for sterling, Date Mark for 1904. Charles E Berry Sr. began as a jewelers apprentice for the prestigious firm of Galt Brothers in 1887, working with that firm until he started the partnership of Shaw & Berry in 1899, establishing their business on the corner of 11th and F streets. Mr. Shaw retired and the partnership of Berry & Whitmore began, soon to become one of the leading jewelry firms in Washington DC. About 1920, Mr. Whitmore retired and the firm became Berry & Co.
