Item Description
We are pleased to offer this Antique German Figural Tobacco Jar. A Dutch Boy with a red Hat sits amid a stack of tied cigars. This is a older jar c. 1890-1900. Some age related wear, nicks inside the lid, the neck has a very old repair. Hard to see. This jar is a older one and still displays well. Tobacco jars have been used since the 1700s to store pipe tobacco. They've been made with a variety of materials, including tin, wood, and pewter, but most are pottery jars, made of porcelain, majolica, or bisque. In the mid-19th century, figural tobacco jars (shaped like people or animals) became popular. Research Consulted: Martin Millers Antique Source Book.....
