La Rochere Art Nouveau Style Cameo Glass Single Stem Vase :
The La Rochère Artistic Glassworks was founded in the Haute-Saône region of North-East France in 1475 by Simon de Thysac, a gentleman glassmaker. It’s one of the oldest registered companies in Europe and the oldest working glassworks in France. It produces a range of high-quality glassware such as drinking glasses, vases, paperweights and lamp bases.
This item is a lovely piece, evocative of the 1890 to 1910 Art Nouveau period. There’s a beautiful green cameo of two iris blooms with leaves, reaching from the base almost to the top, and a single large green butterfly. The distinctive “La Rochère” name is also in green cameo relief near the bottom. The ground colours are a very soft opaque rosy amber, slightly striated, with green feathering on the lip and the base. The surface is matte.
The vase is in pristine condition, with no chips or cracks. There’s no interior staining, suggesting that it’s never been used to hold flowers. It’s 20cms tall, it’s 8cms in diameter at the widest point near the base and it tapers upwards to 3.5cms in diameter at the top; it weighs 322gms.
