Collection of 33 large antique German marbles and a large mahogany solitaire board.Everything in the photos is included in this sale and the marbles are an interesting
and unusual mix of larger ribbon core swirls, divided core swirls, latticino core swirls,
naked core swirls and include some same cane examples that can be seen in photo 11
which are in the orange/green/yellow palate. There are five of these, some with shrunken
or off centre cores and all five appear to have a single faceted pontil. Most of the marbles
are approximately 1\" in diameter and range in size from approximately
0.90\" (23 mm) - 0.95\" (24 mm)
with a couple being very slightly bigger and a couple being slightly smaller. They are in mixed condition and I have put up lots of photos, which can be enlarged,
so that you can assess them for yourselves. There are three that have large chips on one side,
two of which can be seen in the last photo and they all have small chips and flea bites but
I think it is rare to find such a large solitaire board with a full complement of near 1\" marbles
and overall they are bright and clear with a nice wet surface and most of them
display very well from at least one side.
The wooden solitaire board is a large and substantial mahogany example at 11½\" ( 29cm)
in diameter with a nice patina. There are some very light surface scratches and one small dint
to the inside rim and some old treated wood worm holes on the back, but there are no cracks
in the wood or any other damage and it is a very attractive board. I think it would have had
three bun feet originally but these are missing now.
Please note that I am fairly new to the world of marbles and by no means an expert
and I have described these marble as best I can, with reference to
Robert Blocks book \'Marbles - Identification and price guide 5th edition\'. I have also put up enlarged photos of the marbles to show any damage so please view them all
