Large 13" Tin Friction 1949 Cadillac Fat Car Nomura T.n. Japan:
I'm selling a very large tin friction 1949 Cadillac fat car made by Nomura of Japan. MORE PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTION TO FOLLOW.On Mar-26-13 at 01:45:05 PDT, seller added the following information:
More about the 49 Cadillac. The car measures 13 inches or 33 centimeters long and is six inches or 15 centimeters wide. The car is complete and all original; it has been played with a good deal. I love this car, really love it. It has its flaws, but it is pretty terrific, too. This car is not for the perfectionist, the collector who needs to have a mint, near/mint example.. This car is more for the collector who can appreciate the survivor, who can overlook the details to appreciate the big picture. It has a great long, speedy look to it and the the blue/green color is wonderful. The paint has a lot of scratches and chips, especially along the edges but the paint has a beautiful glow that combines nicely with the silver of the chrome trim. The paint surface is on the rough side but with a really nice glow. The chrome trim has some shine and overall is in pretty decent condition but there are nicks and pits and darkening to both the front and back bumpers. The base has a lot of wear and the friction motor is completely shot, although the back wheels roll freely. This car is very large, one of the first 1950's tin fat cars. It combines the simplified shapes of much smaller, late 40's Japanese tin friction cars with the size that would come to be the norm later on in the decade. Nomura made a number of tin Cadillac cars of this same size and basic model, according to the terrific book Tinplate Toy Carsthe cars represented were from 1949 to 1952. This is the first and most basic of the 13 inch Cadillac cars made by Nomura in the early 50's. There is power in simplicity and this car has a real power and presence for the right collector. The great Big Book of Tin Toy Cars has it pictured on page 32.
