Large 15" Antique Chinese Deeply Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Tray Or Plaque For SaleFor sale is presented a large early c1900s Chinese deeply carved cinnabar lacquer tray or plaque on four bracket feet for laying flat or can be displayed hanging on a wall. This large tray was produced in China during the late Qing period to perhaps the very early Republic period. The tray is quite impressive being just a bit under 15" wide x 10" high and must have between 350 to 400 individual applied coats of lacquer over a wooden frame and depicts many figures engaged in conversation and carrying numerous scrolls amoungst outdoor scenes surrounded by plants, rockery, mountains as well as pine, dogwood and prunus trees along with stone tables, seats and a bridge. There are also a variety of buildings with stone walls and intricate roof and gable designs and railings all on geometric backgrounds with the curved out sides having corner and central flower and leaf groupings separated by again more geometric ground designs. On the reverse of the curved side edges is a continuous running design of more flowers, leaves, vines and birds in flight with four bracket corner feet and a black lacquer bottom containing a bronze date plaque and the word 'CHINA' in red. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, losses or repairs only having a small light scratch in the geometric background left of the bridge and one small shallow dent in the roof of the top right building with again not very noticeable otherwise excellent.
