Description: (LARGE PICTURES BELOW)
A STUNNING LARGEVICTORIAN (CIRCA 1880)THOMAS WEBB GLASS ANDENAMEL HAND PAINTED IRRIDESCENT GLASS VASE.
Designed by Christopher Dresser and made by Webbto imitate the earlier fashion for carved cameo glass.
Many of Thomas Webbs glass works were not marked but the similarity with other Webb cameo glass is the same. In this case there is a roman numeral on the bottom. Purhaps a pattern number for the painted design.
For one the irredescent finish and colour of the glass, the shape of the bulbous form and neck, one side being painted more with space being left on the reverse, the lower rim shape also with two white bands. The quality and thickness of the glass.
It is a long known fact that the English design genious Christopher Dresser designed ranges of glass ware that was made by Thomas Webb firm of glass blowers. Webbs Dresser designs were exhibited at International exhibitions during the 1870 & 1880's. It was Dresser that provided simplified aethetics forms and idea for changing the technical processes to drive through productivity and as a result making pieces more affordable and available to a wider part of society.
This vase is a direct example of Dresser influence at Webb's and it shows the transition from earlier Webb cameo glass to later produed plain minimalistic webb glass that concentrated on shape and surface glaze effects.
Also as with Dresser influence from the Orient we see many aesthetic movement work showing this attribute. The foliage and flower design on this pieceis very Japanesque as oposed to earlier cameo flower arangments.
In this case it is unusual to have such a big sized vase and this was only achievedby changingtechneques. Thisvase has beenhand painted with white enamels and not cameo like glass which isground out from a white top glass layer. This meant that anincreased size could be achieved without the added expense for the eventual buyer.
Condition: Vase is in very good condition with a small amount of wear on the underside rim foot. Also there are a number of very tiny flee bite chips to area around the inner top rim. There is also what looks like to be a tiny hair lineon the inside of the neck but this is not a crack. There a few very small chip losses to the white enamel.
(PLEASE ALSO USE PICS BELOW AS A CONDITION GUIDE)
Size: 14.5 X 7.5 inches.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION / response
- I hope you are very happy with your purchase.
- I work hard to satisfy every customer that has bought an item from me so you feel comfortable leaving positive response and nothing less than an overall Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 5.
- For whatever reason, if you are considering giving a low DSR, please do write to me and give me an opportunity to address your concerns first. You may think that you are leaving a reasonable rating by giving a seller DSR's of 4****'s, but 's response system treats anything less than a 5*****'s as sub-standard and penalizes sellers for DSR ratings that average under 5.00, which means it count's against me on my response score.
After you have received the item and have left response, i will know you are happy with the item and i will leave positive response to you.
