The exactsize is: 1'-5" x 8'-3" (44 x 252cm). Thisbeautiful example of an antiqueYomud tent band fragment is symmetrically knotted with 100% natural, plant derived, dye lots.It is all wool in construction withno silk or cotton present. The condition is quite good with full, thick piledisplaying motifdesigns that are pre-Islamic in nature, harking back to shamanistic and animistic ancient Central Asian tribalsocieties and passed down through the generations from grandmother to mother to daughter. I am sure there is a story being told by these symbols. Note that there is one small gouge on the side (see photo 8) and a few small splits in the plainweaveivory wool ground (see photos 9 and 10).These few smallcondition issues do not distract from the eye while viewing the weaving and were caused by past ethnographic age use by pastoral nomads living and migrating their flocks of animals on the steppes of West Turkestan during the 19th century. A veryunusual aspectabout this specimenare the two,pile-woven, by the weaver as additional decorative embellishments in the original banded flatweave ending (see photos7 and11).
