Large Antique Victorian Ebony Hand Carved Wooden Elephants. Three. Two Large and one small. A must have for any serious collector. Unrestored and original. Superb piece of carving. Very detailed, lots of creases, folds and bumps. Very rare and heavy. Circa 1890.
The detailing and smoothness of the dark ebony wood in the carvings is beautiful and detailed. Most pieces from this time period have more serious fissures. There are some minor naturally occurring fissures that have been repaired such as the foot on one of the large elephants. Again, considering the age, this is minimal. You can see a close up of this in the photographs.
These elephants are hand carved in solid Ebony wood. From natural progression of shifting and aging of the wood, it has some fine splitting, which is shown in the photographs. There are several age cracks.
The large elephants (two) stands 7.25 inches tall, and about 9 inches long from front to the end of its tail. Approximately 5 inches deep. The small elephant is 2 inches tall, 3 inches long (from tusks to tail), and 1 + 1/2 inches deep.
These large and well carved Ebony Elephants are believed to be from India, Circa 1890. Gorgeous quality and artisanship.
