Large Copper, Wood & Mica Arts And Crafts Table Lamp, Poppy Cutouts, Circa 1905:
LARGE COPPER, WOOD & MICA ARTS AND CRAFTS TABLE LAMP, POPPY CUTOUTS, Circa 1905
Early, large & exceptional copper, mica and wood Arts & Crafts Period table lamp. Found a number of years ago in Ohio in a large Lake Erie waterfront cabin built in 1905 where it had resided since new with its original owners. An extraordinary example of early arts and crafts design and execution.
Beautiful hexagonal very heavy hand hammered copper shade with rivets, and beautifully tooled and pierced poppy cutouts that look extraordinary when lit thru the mica panels. Heavy hexagonal wood base (mahogany) with decorative hammered copper bands and tacks. Similar to at least one early catalogued offering by Gustav Stickley, but unsigned and by an unknown maker. Also similar to work produced by Benedict Studios and Onondaga Metal Shops.
An early and unusual form, this is in exceptional original condition. Measures an impressive 20" in height. The shade is 19 1/2" at its widest, and the base 8" wide. Genuine mica panels are old replacements and look good, otherwise, the lamp is in extraordinary and original condition with original dark brown patina and finish and original sockets and cord.
This is a superb early and rare piece in excellent condition, and an extremely attractive form that would be a stunning accent to the mission oak furniture in your bungalow or cabin.
