Loetz Art Glass Art Nouveau Rare Iridescent Jar/vase Bohemian 1900 Collection :
A true work of art. We present to your attention this spectacular Art Nouveau glass jar, made by the bohemian glass manufacture Loetz Witwe from Klostermühle around 1900. Somewhere in the 1900-1930 period. The glass is dim green-to-yellow iridized, with dark melting technique. Silver-plated mount with silver-plated lid, fire polished. 100 % original. Perfect, completely mint condition of glass (natural patina tarnish on lid). Reference to similar vase found in Sammlung Bröhan „Kunsthandwerk: Glas, Holz, Keramik“ Berlin 1976, and other art glass catalogues.
This Loetz glass is part of a private collection, gathered over 40 years. It is a valued piece that stood in my living room for nearly a decade. May it find a worthy home. I purchased it back in day from Vienna (used to own an antique store). Large size, green chameleon coloring, uncommon Loetz pieces.
Its strong iridescence and great execution give this vase presence beyond its size. It's highly iridescent olive colored ground shows strong contrast against the pulled oil spot decoration.
Condition (again because it’s important!:)):
MINT condition, showing only the textures imparted upon it in its making. There are no cracks or restorations. It is as perfect as you will find given its age.
A bit more about the origin of the glass:
The Famos Bohemian glass manufacturer Loetz widow, Klostermühle in sub-Reichenstein (Klastersky Mlyn, Czech Republic) was founded in 1836 by Johann Eisner von Eisenstein, 1851/52 by Susan Gerstner Loetz acquired and inherited in 1878 at her grandson Max Ritter von Spaun, who under the name Johann Loetz Widow the company further led. Under Edward Spaun, Prochazka worked as director of the factory, and led to international success. 1902-15 many glasses were made from designs by famous artists. Pursuing their work include Michael Powolny, Koloman Moser, Marie Kirschner, Mary Wilfert-Waltl, Hofstätter Franz Josef Hoffmann, Otto Prutscher and C. Witzmann for the factory. The company has participated in many exhibitions and won numerous awards including the Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900.
