Narrative:
Mr. Schlesinger\'s workis an ingenious combination of the most uningenious, well-won subjectsof the familiar stock-in-trade of the painters, —Eve\'s curiosity, an Italianmodel, a studio interior. The young model, in her familiarcostume, left \"Alone in the Studio \'\' for a few moments by her carelessemployer, deserts her big chair perched upon the platform—under the tapestryof Apollo singing—and creeps up to the tall mirror, by the aid of whichthe painter gets his \"effects.\" Around the edge of this she pokesher young face, curiously, and is confronted by her own image.It is no very thrilling, but it is as good a peg as another on which tohang a specimen of good painting, and M Schlesinger\'s success is enoughto induce us to forgive his trivial plot. The reflection of the otherside of the apartment, seen in the mirror, is very cleverly given. Theartist is a Prussian by birth,—being native of Frankfort-on-the-Main, anda pupil of the Academy of Vienna,—but has beennaturalized a French citizen, and is hors concours. His paintingsare not very numerous in this country.
