GJPaw sales is pleased to MASSIVE Gilt Bronze Figure of Yama. The statue depicts Yama, the god of death and the ruler of the departed, atop a bull in in the pratyalidhasana mudra. In the Vedas, ancient Indian Sanskrit texts, it is said that Yama is the first mortal to have to have died. In other Eastern texts, he is depicted as the Lokapala of the South, a guardian of the rode to hell. In this depiction, his hair is like fire and he wears a crown studded with human skulls and jewels, such as coral, turquoise, and tourmaline. In addition to the ornate jewelry, he is wearing the skin of a tiger and around his waist and the flesh of a person draped over his shoulders. The statue is very finely cast of three solid bronze pieces, and thus, extremely heavy. The piece measures 26 inches tall by 15.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep (66 cm tall by 39.3 cm wide by 21.6 cm deep).
