Nice Refinished Early Antique Dome Top Trunk With Leather Straps & Buckles and Working Lock & Key

We are one of the leading trunk refinishers and sellers on . This is a nice primitive refinished dome top steamer trunk from the mid to late 1800\'s. This trunk is more utilitarian and was made to be purchased and used. It was not sold on it\'s gaudy or fancy looks like so many other trunks are. Here are the trunk\'s measurements:fromleft to right across the front is 34 1/4 inches, from floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/4 inches. We have taken twelve pictures above for you to view. Since there is more wood showing than fancy hardware, this trunk should be more appealing to the primitives crowd. This hump back chest is made up of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is somewhat rustic looking and has some typical older distress marks. These include nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks in the wood. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have older distress marks like these, which attribute to the trunk\'s antique appearance. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps with buckles, although they were eroded away and missing when we purchased the trunk. We have now run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles where the original ones once were. This camel back chest comes with a nice antique working lock with key so that you can lock your cherished items away from others if you want to do so. The only brass piece of metal on this trunk is the key hole cover and we have semi polished this brass key hole cover. The other metal components on this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The pair of leather straps with roller buckles are functional and in addition to the working lock, they help secure the trunk\'s top to it\'s base when fastened. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle end caps are nice, heavy cast iron ones. A lot of these dome top trunks look like nautical or maritime treasure chests. This one would look nice in a bedroom at the foot of the bed to store personal belongings within. It might serve as a storage chest for Civil War, coin, teddy bear, nautical, and doll collectibles. At the back of this trunk, we repaired one of the hinges by using a patch hinge in which we fastened onto the original hinge so that the top of the trunk will open and close properly. Going inside of this lovely dome top, we have finished the interior wood with two coats of polyurethane. We have also added two nice pictures to the underside of the dome. They portray ladies posing. The interior wood has some stress cracks and some small areas of discoloration due to moisture in the past. The wood is a little rustic looking like most primitives which are rustic in appearance. Going to the bottom underneath the trunk, it still has the nice early wider casters in place and they do still spin. We have given the bottom two coats of polyurethane to make this trunk nice and clean for placement inside anyone\'s home. Our trunks do make great gifts for loved ones on special occasions. A trunk like this one should last a lifetime for the new owner and hopefully be passed down to future generations.
