ITEM DESCRIPTION
Item Description
Up for your consideration is a very fine hand-carved Italian gilt wood shelf with a putto/cherub, c. 1870s. The piece is larger than most, and is in excellent usable condition. I have a near match to this piece is a separate listing.
Measurements
The piece is 18\" tall,15.75\" wide, and 9\" deep.
Condition Report
Overall, the piece is in excellent condition.One foot is missing a screw which would hold the foot to the back of the sculpture, see last photo, however the putto is still very stable and well-attached without this screw. I can glue the piece if requested, but there are no issues currently when hanging. There is also a chip in the same location, about .25\" deep and .75\" across, not visible from the front of the sculpture (hidden by the foot). There are also a few areas where the gilt has wornaway, revealing the red underpainting and gesso underneath, see second, third, and fourth to last photos. The piece is overall in excellent condition for its age and is without other chips, cracks, and imperfections. The gilding is bright, and has modern additions.
