Large Antique 19 Th C Neo Classical English Parian Figure Knight Lady Embrace:
Large Antique 19th Century Parian Statue of a Knight and Ladyin Embrace -
This piece shows a loving scene of a knight and his lady in embrace. This item does show some signs of wear due to age, and use. The flaws include the following: One side of the cross-guard on the knight’s sword has chipped off. There is a chipping on the base near the outer foot of the knight. The knight’s arm around the maiden’s waist carries a crack. The maiden’s wrist on the knights chest also carries a crack. There is some yellowing on parts of the surface, which can be removed with some cleaning. There is a hole at the back of the base with some plaster-like residue, indicating that this may have possibly been converted as a lamp in the past. Lastly, there is some light dusting which canbe removed with some cleaning.
Nonetheless, the above mentioned flaws do not take away from the beauty of the narrative scene. A knight leaving/returning for/from battle embraces with his lady. It’s a scene of love/bravery in a classical romantic sense. The details of the maiden’s dress is graceful, and delicately flowing. The knight’s chain mail from head, to arm, to feet, is finely detailed. The base is transformed into the soft earth with plants and flowers. It’s an exquisite piece, and quite tall at 17.5 inches tall.
