Japanese cloisonne vase Meiji period C1880
Large vase in great condition, measures 27cm high x 13.5cm wide, most Totai pieces are quite small because they were very dificult to make and expensive as sold by the inch.Totai pottery cloisonne vase is decorated with a turquoise blueglazed ground with various flowers sprays and Butterflies, with two large main panels decorated with more flowers and butterflies in different designs.Top inner rim decorated with fan designs and clouds, red signature of maker to the base.Minor short top rim hairline,no chips,no lrestoration or repair.Usual tiny pin holes in enamel with no cracks or noticable losses,an excellent example.A rare find to have just one as Totai were produced for only a short time During early Meiji period, just too difficult and expensive to make, combination o metal,glass/enamel and pottery with glaze, how did they make it??
