Large Antique Mantle Shelf Cuckoo Clock -rare :
Here's a rare, turn of the century mantle/shelf cuckoo. Not sure of the maker but it has 'G.H.S.' stamped on the brass movement with '34' stamped above that, which is the only information I could find on the interior. I've owned it over 30 years and just had it on display on my mantle, it looks great over the fireplace. BTW: My camera battery went dead after only 5 photos, but I will post more pics in a day or two. Years ago, I replaced the bellows with new ones, still have the complete originals with torn tops, and they come with the clock. Clock is complete. I will take pics of the rear door, close-ups of the bird, and bone hands when I get a new camera battery.
Here's the mechanical condition: It's in running condition but it does run a bit fast, so pendulum may or may not be original to the clock, but it was on the clock when I bought it. Runs strong all day long (although you can hear the beat fluctuate slightly when running, probably from irregularities in the escapement). It cuckoos nicely on the hour and half hour but the door needs adjustment as it begins to open a few minutes before the strike. The wood has ancient worm holes in it that can be seen in the pics but the worms are long gone. It never bothered me, I thought it added antique character. The clock measures 18" high. Width of roof at widest point is 16" across. Base measures 13.25" X 7.75". This clock is being sold AS-IS, no warranty applies. Two options for shipping: USPS Priority Mail $45.00, or USPS Parcel Select $25.00. Your choice. Thanks for looking! On Apr-29-13 at 19:49:05 PDT, seller added the following information:
