Offering a very old carved wooden statue of Christ. He is seated and in a position of contemplation. His body is thin and the bones of his back and his ribs are visible. Still, there is a peace about him, a very definite gentleness and ease.
This is, I believe, a very special piece, designed to show the humanity of Christ before his crucifixion. Wikipedia has a nice little article about the history of this figure (search for \"Pensive Christ\").
Condition: worn paint and damage to the statute, including loss of feet and probably a stave in his left hand. Remarkable, his beautiful fingers are intact. There are numerous signs of age: the pictures are intended to give you a good idea of the condition of this piece, so please PLEASE ask questions before offerding.
