This is a highly unusual George III era Snuff Box by the reknowned and collectable Samuel Pemberton.
It is fully hallmarked from Birmingham 1805 and has the makers mark SP which I believe to be for Samual Pemberton but please see the pictures and do your own research to confirm.It is formed of heavy guage Solid Silver in a curved broad rectangular form which gives it a very tactile feel, it sits nicely in the palm of the hand.
The lid sits within the curve with the hinge working well and the lid closing tightly with a good snap but then sits ever so slightly proud, I am sure this can be adjusted.
Both the lid and the rear has a large pattern which looks to be inspired by chinese characters picked out in highly polished silver on a prick dot pattern background.
The sides have a castellated design in a prick dot pattern.
The interior is still wonderfully gilded in a lovely honey colour but of course will show some staining and makes from snuff, it bears the hallmarks on both the lid and the base.The whole piece has an eye to quality and design and is still in superb condition with no splits to the silver, and only very minor small bruising on the edges as we would expect from an item which is 212 years old.It measures 6.8cm x 3.3cm x 1.4cm
It weighs 36.3 grams, approx. This stunning box is in very good condition for its age without any major obvious dents to the silver but please remember that this is not a brand new item but one which is comes from the Georgian era and will show signs of use as would be expected from an antique item.
