In France a family leases their cemetery plot; when the family no longer pays the lease, memorial plaques such as this one are removed and given to the family if they can be located. The plaques sadly end up at the brocante (flea market) in France after decades of being in a family. This rare oval-shaped French cast iron with enamel overlay memorial plaque with a hand painted floral design honors the SIMON family. Two holes were for attaching to a headstone. Hand painted black lettering is in very good condition considering age and weathering. No chips to the enamel except around the attachment holes. Lovely displayed in a grouping. Measures 10 inches by 6 inches. Price is based on rarity and condition of this antique piece. Shipping within the USA only.
