Large Vintage Steinbach Animated Row Boat Fisherman Reuge Wood Music Box Smoker

Made in West Germany

Thislarge wooden rowboat (the Principle III)is 11 1/2\" long, not counting the tiller on the movable rudder. It holds a bucket of fishwith a chain handle, 2 oars and awood pennant Flag. Seated at the back is a bearded fisherman smoking a pipe. He wears a felt hat, has a creel(?) around his neck and holds a long fishing pole with a large fish at the end. It is about 8\" tall to the top of his hat and 12\" to the top of his rod. The fisherman opens so incense can be added to the inside.

The large tag reads \"SteinbachPräsent Volkskunst ausHohenhameln Holzgalanterie Made in W. Germany\". Similar tags are on the Flag. The label on the bottom reads \"Reuge Sur les vagues Over the Waves Waltz Uber den Wellen Swiss Musical Movement\".

If I push the winder by hand I can hear the melody and see that the wheels were meant torock the boat as it plays. However, please note that I cannot get it to wind or play on its own.There is a small stress crack at the tip of the fishing rod (see last close-up).

It displays beautifully and hopefully someone who knows a bit about music boxes can get the tune to play.Please seeall the pictures and use zoom for finer detail.
