This large antique French wall rosary seems to have been brought back from LOURDES by a pilgrim in the late 1800 or early 1900. LOURDES is a well-known French pilgrimage town, where the Holy Virgin appeared to Bernadette, a poor sheperdhess, in 1858. Then miracles took place and LOURDES attracted all the sick in search of cure.

These rosarieswould be displayed on the bedroom wall in the country farms. The beads are made of hand-carved boxtree and have a gorgeous patina.

There are many inscriptions asking the Holy Virgin to protect one\'s family. It has been once attached in an odd manner probably to get an original display on the wall. It could be classically re-attached if required.
