Lars Ivarsson Pipe ~ Blowfish ~ The Ultimate Pipe Experience
; No Buy it Now
Many years ago, I enjoyed the pipe and collected some wonderful examples. I have since sold most of my collection, but kept many of the best pipes stored away. I just could not force myself to part with some of these beauties. But, the time has come. I am thinking about moving this summer and need some money to add to the down payment. So, for the next several weeks, I will periodically post some pipes from my personal collection.
Here it is: the crown jewel of my collection. This is the first time it has been out of my safe in 10 years. Ipurchased this pipe as part of a larger collection and do not know much of its history before I carefully put it away. I was told that is was unsmoked, but with an estate pipe, you never really know. The wood around the draw hole is clean and shows no evidence of use. The rim is clean, without char. But, there is the slightest layer of char? in the bowl. Icannot tell if it is Tobacco char or a coating from the workshop. I have taken pictures of the bowl. You decide. That said, the pipe is in excellent condition. There is a scuff on the top of the stem from storage which I am sure will buff out (but I am not going to touch it). Otherwise, splendid.
The pipe is stamped:
An Ivarsson Product (in a circle)
LI84 (in script)
Ihave seen many variations of the blowfish shape, and this appears to be that unique, rare, and mysterious animal. The interior of the bowl is approx 3/4" in diamter. The oval, egg-shaped exterior of the bowl is approx 1" x 1 1/4". The exterior height of the bowl is approx 2 1/4". This is a difficult shape to measure in terms of length, but from the bottom edge of the bowl to the end of the stem is approx 5".
I have the sock the it was sold to me in, but I do not think that it is original. See pics.
