RARE Bing Crosby ORIGINAL Autograph on Very Early 8x10 Photograph to the Boswell Sisters Mother ca. 1930--LAST CHANCE TO PURCHASE THIS ITEM--it will no longer be available for sale in this store.
This is a rare autograph of Bing\'s, heralding the talent of the Boswell Sisters trio, whom he worked with on many occasions, including the Woodbury Radio Program in 1934. He signed this very early photograph of himself probably in 1929 or 30. The note reads: \"To the charming mother of my favorite songstresses, Mrs. Boswell - Bing Crosby\" (Not shown: On the back of the photo in pencil is the name \"Al Pelefsky,\" unknown to the family so perhaps the photographer?) Photo condition is very good, a little yellowing due to age and a few tiny worn spots, but no rips or tears.
Pictures include a few shots of Bing with Connie and the trio, all of which are available as reprints in the Boswell Sisters Store here on .
The Boswell Sisters first met Bing in Hollywood in 1929 when they met up with a friend from New Orleans, Dixie Lee (Bing\'s first wife). Bing recorded with and became friends with the trio and in particular later Connie Boswell with whom he recorded many duets.
The Boswell Sisters usually asked for autographs for their mother and aunt, and few others, never for themselves.
Connie Boswell first gained fame as one ofThe Boswell Sisters--close harmony singers from New Orleans--during the Depression Era. After the act was disbanded, Connie went on to a solo career that lasted into the 1960s. She was unable to walk since the age of three, and spent much of her time performingfor children and promotingThe March of Dimes, and during WWII performed for wounded soldiers as well. Despite her disability, Connie was very active and enjoyed swimming, cyclingand horseback riding when in California and sledding and snowball fights when in New York in the wintertime.
The Boswell Sisters were a highly influential, close harmony singing trio. Real sisters, they were three gifted musicians who emerged from the jazz movement in New Orleans in the early 1900s and became icons & pioneers in music & early radio & recording with influences that extend far beyond their own time. They took the idea of jazz and did it vocally, and they did it with such blending and precision that it has not been equaled since. Many giants of the swing era worked in their orchestras, and even stood and applauded them in honor of their musicianship at the end of a session--musicians such as Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Mannie Klein, Bunny Berigan, Joe Venuti & Eddie Lang to name a few. This store contains items related to their career & personal lives, including the book \"The Boswell Legacy\" by Titus & Boswell Minnerly, restored & original seen & never-before-seen images, original artifacts owned by the sisters themselves, and much more.
