This sale is for the rare 1912 $10 gold coin with the lowest original mintage of the $10 coins at 74,759. The 1912 coin makes up only ~7% of the total $10 coins released by the mint in this unique issue, making it the most rare and sought after year. Just over a reported 1300 hand-selected coins 1912 coins were released. The 1912 coin is much rarer and more difficult to find in nice condition than other years due to the additional length of time the coins had been in circulation.
