Late 1800\'s Sainte Anne de Beaupre\' Souvenir Icon!
Devotion to Saint Anne in Canada can be traced to the beginning of New France and was brought by the first settlers and early missionaries. These hardy pioneers began to till the fertile soil of the Beaupre\' hilside in the region which now forms the parish of Sainte Anne de Beaupre\'. The old church was begun in 1676 and was used for worship until 1876 when it was replaced by the present one. The present church was built of cut stone by means of contributions from all the Catholics of Canada. Pope Leo XIII raised it to the rank of a minor basilica in 1887 and in 1889 it was solemnly consecrated by Cardinal Taschereau, Archbishop of Quebec. It has been served by the Redemptorists since 1878.
The souvenir icon is approximately 2 11/16\" x 5 1/16\" closed. It has a leather cover and a velvet covering on the inside.
The cloth hinges are worn and loose and it is missing the easel back that it originally had. Please supersize the embedded images to view the condition in detail.
