Late 18th. Century English Engraved And Fluted Quart Barrel Decanter :
This is a beautiful sparkling mint example of an 18th. century barrel decanter. This design was never improved upon, incorperating the classical Greek and Asian forms. As you can see in the photograph there is copper wheel fluting both around the neck and the base; and in between there is a copper wheel engraved swag of tiny flowers enhancing a repetative angular design. The stopper is cut in such a way as to reflect the light like a prizm. This is a heavy piece, which makes me suspect that it may be lead glass. Aside from the dust, it looks pristine to me. The base has a ground pontil; and I'm almost changing my mind about listing it. But I won't; I can't build a pyramid for my treasures. Ah yes, I forgot. The piece is 9" tall without the stopper, and 4" wide.
