Late Civil War Mcclellan Style Forage Cap For Sale
This is a late Civil War or early Indian War transition. The visor is regulation painted leather with a binding edge. The sweat band is 1 1/2" reddish brown Moroccan
leather. The lining is a brown Holland linen, self lining, with a blue outer shell. The crown of the hat has a heavy cardboard reinforcement. The crown of the hat is
covered with a faded black linen or cotton. The chin strap is missing and one 3 pc staff button is still attached. The other button is loose. The back mark on the buttons
is "Scovill Mf'g. Co. Waterbury." in a circle around an inner circle of small dots. There are numerous small holes throughout the hat, mostly in the rear around the sweat
band area, but no large tears. The is no indication of an insignia being on the hat. If you are happy with a hat dating in the 1865-1872 period you will certainly like this hat.
