Greeks and Romans used this aromatic plant to make perfumes and ointments. Since the Middle Ages, the dried flowers have been one of the main ingredients of potpourri and fresh sprigs were included in herbal bunches, known as “tussie mussies”, to mask unpleasant household odors and ward off fevers.
Uses: Lavender is used extensively to make antiseptic, perfumed infusions, tinctures, herbal oils, cosmetic creams and lotions, toilet water, powders and deodorants, insect repellent and potpourri.
Medicinally is valued antidepressant and mood-elevating effects, and has been used internally for the treatment of digestive problems, anxiety, rheumatism, irritability, and tensions and migraine headaches.
For Tea:
1: Lavender tea. Dry bud is brewing, take a spoon into the pot, then pour boiling water, just a stew for 5 minutes to enjoy. You can add honey and sugar to taste.
Herbal Pesticide Infusion:
Make an infusion of lavender to spray on yourself and other plants.
Pour 2 cups of boiling water onto ½ cup of blossoms and allow mixture to soak overnight. Strain the next day.
For Plants - Add a drop of dish washing liquid (will help it adhere to leaves).
For Human use – Add several drops of carrier oil (Apricot Kernel Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond)
You will need to reapply mixture after a rain shower.
For a Lavender SPA
Add ½ cup of lavender to bath water
