Led Zeppelin\'s manager Peter Grant infamously turned down the bands invitation to play the Woodstock Festival, the opening act for this show Joe Cocker and the Grease Band didn\'t and left for upstate New York after their performances at this Asbury Park show.
This was the third time I saw Led Zeppelin, the other two times were at the Fillmore East the previous January and May….It didn\'t take long for them to rise to super stardom, They were a band on a mission and were on fire this night.
Looking back on it, it was a blessing they didn\'t play Woodstock, they rose through their records and live performances on their own without being labeled a Woodstock act which became a curse (longevity wise) to some artists who made it because of the movie and soundtrack….Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After and Joe Cocker for example….They got too big too soon.
Though Led Zeppelin\'s rise was rapid enough as it was, they recorded three albums II,III, IV before they became super stars, I think Woodstock might have affected that output, as it did some of those other artists.
* Note, I used a high resolution camera and the scans come off as magnified, this stub is much better condition than it appears the scans to the naked eye….The ticket is more yellow than it appears here.
