So, here’s the shocker: this hip piece is an exact replica of a design from 1690. Talk about everything old being new again! Lenox Kirk Stieff Colonial Williamsburg pewter “strawberry dish” bears a striking resemblance to a modern day bottle cap with its fluted edge treatment. Gorgeous minimalist treatment on this shallow bowl (or tray) with a single finely incised line tracing around the bowl’s bottom radius, a subtle and elegant detail. This is not pewter like you remember the tankards from those old Steak & Ale type restaurants. This reads like a cross between sterling silver and stainless steel – very contemporary!
This 100% lead-free item is in very good vintage condition with the expected scratching and scuffing of the flat inside surface; the fluted portions are 99 percent scratch-free. Underside markings as follows:
Williamsburg – Stieff Pewter – (official Colonial Williamsburg stamp) – CW54-8
A heavier piece than it appears. Original price in 1968 was $19.75 which is equivalent to $128 today. Just imagine how chic this is going to look on your cocktail or dining table – or as a catch-all or jewelry holder on a bureau.
11 ¼” diameter x 1 ½” H
