From Leo Smith about The Pilgrim Man and Pilgrim Woman…
“The Bible speaks of ‘strangers and Pilgrims on the earth who seek a better country’.
When the Pilgrims settle in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620, their unique commitment to Democratic government and Biblical teachings met with little notice in wild and open country.
But their principles have greatly influenced succeeding generations.
The simple lifestyles and high ideals of the Pilgrims represent to me the beginnings of our American culture.
I tried to capture this Pilgrim offering a prayer of thanks for the harvest in the best spirit of Thanksgiving.
Full of strength and warmth, I think he’s a handsome reminder of a uniquely American holiday’s heritage.
Full of strength and warmth, I think she’s a handsome reminder of a uniquely American holiday’s heritage.
I have made every effort to create a piece with uncompromising originality, whose finish and look have the soft patina of age which one expects from a fine collectible.
I hope you enjoy this beautiful limited edition reproduction by Midwest Importers of Cannon Falls, Inc., a collectible I’m proud to assure you captures the essence and integrity of my original carving.”

Each piece they create is made from resin and is hand cast to precisely reproduce the beauty of the original wood carving done by Leo Smith
After the casting, it is then hand painted on color schemes developed by Marilyn Smith
In 1991, Leo and Marilyn Smith began having reproductions made of their work by Midwest of Cannon Falls
Leo continues to create beautiful Folk Art and Bronze Fine Art and is known internationally for his colorful Folk pieces
Many pieces of Folk Art done by Leo and Marilyn Smith are featured in a display at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, Minnesota.
