Leonard, H.l., 8’0”, “fairy Catskill” Bamboo Fly Rod.:
Leonard, H.L., 8’0”, “Fairy Catskill” bamboo fly rod. This is a nice example of the pre-fire 2.2 oz. three-piece model 39 that has tip sections that are no more than .055” in diameter. This rod has the standard butternut spacer with the marked nickel silver butt cap and knurled sliding band. It has the patent dated ferrules and, like rods in the “Baby” and “Fairy” Catskill series models, a snake guide was used as the stripping guide. All of the guides are wound in maroon silk with yellow tipping. The four sections are full-length, and one of the tips has a protective invisible silk wind just ahead of the last snake guide before the top guide. I swear, these sections are pretty darn straight, and the ferrule fits are very good. This is obviously a light-line rod, and I suspect that a #2 DTF line would not overload this nice old Leonard. It comes in the correct Leonard cloth bag and brass capped tube.
